These terms govern your use of Docksmith, a macOS application made by Frédéric Jalbert-Desforges, a sole proprietor based in Québec, Canada ("we", "us"). By installing or using Docksmith, you agree to them.

1. Your licence

When you buy Docksmith you receive a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the software. You are buying a right to use it, not the software itself; we keep ownership of it and of everything in it.

Your licence covers a stated number of Macs — the number you chose when you bought it, shown on your key and in the application. You may install and use Docksmith on that many Macs, whether they are yours personally or provided by your employer, provided you are the main user of each.

The licence does not expire. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and nothing renews.

Multi-machine use

Docksmith validates your key on your own Mac and does not phone home, so nothing technically prevents you from using a key on more machines than you paid for. We rely on your good faith, as most independent Mac developers do. Please buy the number of seats you actually use.

2. What you may not do

• Resell, sublicense, rent, or redistribute Docksmith or a licence key.
• Share your key publicly, or with people outside your licence.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software, except where that right cannot be excluded by law.
• Remove or alter any notice, branding, or licence check.

3. The free trial

Docksmith runs fully featured for seven days on a free trial key. The key is issued on request at docksmith.app — you give an e-mail address, nothing else: no account, no password, and no payment method. The download itself is free and open to anyone; the key is what starts the application.

The trial key is issued once per Mac, and is tied to that machine: asking again from the same computer returns the same key rather than a new period, whatever address is used. Asking again more than ninety days later starts a fresh evaluation. See the privacy policy for what the machine fingerprint is and is not.

The trial runs for seven days from the day the key was issued, not from the day you install. When it ends, the docks stop and your native macOS Dock is restored; the application deletes none of your settings, and entering a licence key resumes exactly where you were.

4. Updates

Every 1.x update is included in your purchase, for as long as we publish them. If a paid version 2.0 is ever released, existing customers will be offered it at half price, and the 1.x version you have will keep working — a new major version never disables what you already bought.

We do not promise a particular release schedule, a particular feature, or that any feature present today will remain unchanged. macOS changes, and Docksmith changes with it.

5. Requirements

Docksmith requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later and the macOS Accessibility permission for its window features. It is a macOS application only; there is no iOS, iPadOS, Windows, or Linux version. The seven-day trial exists so you can confirm it suits your setup before paying.

6. No warranty

Docksmith is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Docksmith will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every configuration or every future version of macOS.

Nothing here excludes rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be excluded — including, in Québec, under the Consumer Protection Act.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to Docksmith is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost data, or lost time, even if we were advised such damages were possible.

8. Termination

Your licence ends if you materially breach these terms — for example by redistributing your key. You may stop using Docksmith at any time by deleting it. Sections 6, 7 and 10 survive termination.

9. Third parties

Docksmith is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple Inc. macOS, Mac and the Apple logo are trademarks of Apple Inc. Any other product names mentioned on this site belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the applicable laws of Canada, and the courts of the judicial district of Montréal have jurisdiction — without depriving you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country of residence.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. The version in force for your purchase is the one published when you bought your licence; changes are not applied retroactively to licences already sold. The date at the top always shows the current version.
